Description: |
Adriaen Isenbrandt (ca 1480–1551) was a Netherlandish painter, who was a an apprentice of one of the leading masters of Bruges, Gerard David (ca 1460–1523). Isenbrandt was an internationally recognised master; royal courts as well as wealthy merchants commissioned works of art from his workshop. The location of his customers varied from Spain to northern Europe. The works of Isenbrandt’s workshop are characterised by a skilful handling of colours, figures with melancholy facial expressions and elongated physical proportions, and a subtle presentation of details. Hundreds of works have been attributed to him, but none of the attributions have been verified by a written source.
