From the series Having been slaves, shall we be terrible masters when the time comes? The subject of the drawings comes from popular and mass culture in the broadest sense - the Russian tradition of caricature, animated films, posters and graffiti art. The artists themselves describe their works as “radical democratic drawings". Brener is the most famous artist in Russia; together with Kulik, he established the concept of “terrorist performance", so far not in practice in the world, that received broad international interest. During the first decade of the 21st century Brener's work has turned into political actionism, that also includes the drawings made on sharp topical subjects. During recent years Brener has been working with his disciple Barbara Schurz, and as a result the authorship of the drawings is divided between the two artists. Eha Komissarov
