Press Materials 2018

December 7, 2018–May 26, 2019, Kadriorg Art Museum
The exhibition that launches the centennial of the Art Museum of Estonia gives us new insight on the legacy of the first two professional Estonian artists. Their works are part of the both international academic art and Estonian national art. The story of the exposition of Johann Köler’s paintings and August Weizenberg’s sculptures reflects the significant developments of approaching exhibitions in the Art Museum of Estonia during the last one hundred years.

Curator: Mai Levin

July 21–October 21, 2018, Kadriorg Art Museum
The exhibition dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Kadriorg Palace and Park ensemble is a tribute to this unique architectural and cultural monument. Kadriorg has provided the stage for important political events, shaped the aesthetics beliefs of many generations, and has played a noteworthy role in art and literature. On the one hand, the Kadriorg Palace is well-preserved, and on the other every historical period has redesigned it according to its own tastes, and it is impossible to recreate the past. The exhibition reflects the historical glow created by the palace and park and creates an atmosphere that helps viewers perceive the essence of Kadriorg. Everyone will find their own Kadriorg here. The audio guide prepared by the curators highlights some of the more colourful episodes in the 300-year history of Kadriorg and the people associated with it.

Curators: Aleksandra Murre and Kerttu Männiste

March 10–July 08, 2018, Kadriorg Art Museum
The centrepiece of the exhibition is the newly-restored large-scale painting by Ivan Aivazovsky from the collection of the Art Museum of Estonia. This rare work of art has been placed amongst a number of seascapes from Russian, Latvian and Estonian collections, which together give an overview of the oeuvre of Russia’s best-known marine painter.

Curators: Aleksandra Murre and Alar Nurkse
