October 25, 2019–April 26, 2020, Niguliste Museum
The exhibition presents the story, meaning and depiction of the Virgin Mary, with a focus on medieval Livonia. One of the exhibition’s goals is to tell the story of the Virgin Mary through the medieval and early modern art works that have been located in houses of worship in Estonia and Livonia. The exhibition is also focused on the research and popularisation of local church art, by introducing for the first time the masterpieces of Estonian medieval art from various congregations and churches. The exhibition will take place during the centenary of the Art Museum of Estonia, as well as the 35th anniversary of the Niguliste Museum.
