| Description: | “Romeo and Juliet" is associated with the post-structuralist context of art. The work is created with the help of a computer into which pages of the book are scanned, the image is digitally processed and finally the result is printed out. It is a new text based on a text written by another author that has its own rules and regulations. The relationship between the work and the text is extremely tight and the two are difficult to separate from one other. Due to the fact the work appears to be a mystification. In Romeo and Juliet the interpretation of the concept of ‘text' runs on several levels; we can see the text (in the form of Tali's work) in dialogue with another text (pages from the book); as a result the author's involvement becomes vague and indistinguishable. On a pictorial level the viewer identifies with the artist who has created the piece of art from a book with burned edges. On a textual level the viewer is introduced to both Shakespeare and the other author, and recognises that the authors have identified with the love story in totally different ways. The artist earned the main prize with the work in the 12th Tallinn Print Triennial. Eha Komissarov |
