Description: | In the work Pax the dominant semantic element is a dove. Noah's messenger, with an olive branch in its beak, announcing the end of the Deluge in the Old Testament, has become a symbol of peace and hope in the Christian world. Whereas earlier a dove used to symbolize peace between people and God, today it signifies peace among people. The image of a dove is also both on the emblem of Greenpeace and those of the movement for nuclear disarmament. The famous poster Dove of Peace was completed for the 1949 World Peace Congress by Picasso, who was also the first artist to be awarded the Lenin Prize in the 1960s for his actions to preserve international peace. In Visnap's work visual doubling has made the image of the dove even stronger. The contour around the figure holding the bird also resembles the silhouette of a bird – therefore there is a double dove in the picture. Elnara Taidre |
