Kalve's portraits and photographic stagings were produced a few years back but they still look hundred years old. In some images the age is emphasized by eroded and carved frames. “Three Graces" and “Estonian Summer" are reminiscent of the early years of erotic photography. The portraits - with poses similar to those from the beginning of the last century and enlivened by attributes - are documents of people from the field of business of religion (Dmitri Demyanov, Eenok Haamer), ageless poetical visions of women (Kauksi Ülle, Doris Kareva), images of a slightly sinful, yet exciting, studio environment with a circle of bohemians (the photographers of Destudio with models; Imat Suuman, Aleksander Müller and Imboil). The tinted black-and-white images (Destudio, Aleksander Suuman, Hasso Krull) take us back to a time before colour photographs and the double-photographs (Imat Suuman, Aleksander Müller and Imboil, Hasso Krull) to the time of early moving image and film. Kalve positions the people playing with the technical advances of photography as well as the development of its genres, and consistently uses old photographic techniques in the time of digital photography.
