Beautiful Man and Beautiful Woman form an interesting pair of works. We can see a woman surrounded by fashionably artificial cosmetic goods - tubes of lipstick, perfume bottles and mascara - that refer to traditional female beauty. In man's thoughts there is room for figures wearing a mini-skirt and heels, as well as for attributes from the artist's chaotic studio, or the art museum, harmonious combination of the material and the spiritual. Surely feminist critique would reproach the artist for once again depicting the woman naked, whilst the man is arrogantly wearing clothes: the latter acquires the position of a subject and the female nude depicted as an object. Nevertheless Visnap has not concentrated in his work on analysis of gender representations, but instead is ironically playing with the subject. Elnara Taidre
