Description: | Anu Põder completed the first works of the series “Cut as a Sign" for the 4th annual exhibition of the Soros Center for Contemporary Arts, Estonia, "Estonia as a Sign". “Anu Põder, who dreamed of becoming a dancer as a child, has compared sculpture with dancing, and the latter again with an endless attempt to catch light: “/.../ the sculpture is made out of a negative mould; the inner (space) becomes the outer surface that is then brought out, melted and finally hidden only by a sensitive touch of light. Light gives birth to rhythm, expressiveness and character. Every now and then the artist returns to drawing and tracing of light, perhaps most elegantly in her coat series of “Cut as a Sign", in which Põder expresses the handwriting of light through her body that un-noticeably and silently leaves its text behind."
