Description: | Workshop of Pieter Brueghel the Younger (1564–1638) The paintings Bridal Procession on the Way to Church and Presentation of Offerings, which were completed in the workshop of Pieter Brueghel the Younger, are part of a peasant wedding series, which was traditionally comprised of six works. The traditional series covered the following events: the bridal procession on the way to church, the groom’s procession on the way to church, the presentation of offerings, the wedding festivities, the blessing of the marital bed (by the village priest) and, finally, the everyday life of the married couple. The most important part of the whole wedding – the church ceremony – was never depicted. |
