Apparently from an engraving Venus and Mars Caught in Vulcan’s Net. 18th century. Oil

Strangely enough, the most beautiful deity in classical mythology, the love goddess Venus, was married to the only ugly god, Vulcan, the god of fire and forging. Therefore, it is understandable that Venus fell in love with the manly war god Mars.
The deceived husband got his revenge in an inventive way by forging an invisible net from thunderbolts and hanging it above the love nest. The lovers became entangled in the net and became the laughing stock of the other gods.

Franz Christoph Janneck (1703–1761) was an Austrian painter of the Rococo era, worked in Vienna and was the rector of the local art academy.
Antoine Coypel (1661–1722), who created the original painting, was the first court painter at the French court, and worked primarily in Paris and Versailles.
