Digital Art Museum provides access to the works in the collection of Art Museum of Estonia to both Estonian and international contemporary art public and researchers.
Art Museum of Estonia is the only museum in the previous Soviet states that has been able to make acquisitions of contemporary art throughout the 1990s, thus mapping the paradigmatic changes in apprehending art for the whole region.
The digital archive provides an opportunity to view, search and order digital images of the art works in the collection of the Art Museum of Estonia. In addition to visual images and related data, the archive will also include artists’ personal photographs and other information. It also allows the viewing of different stages in the conservation of the works. Furthermore, the photographic archive includes photographs of museum’s special events.
The Digital Art Museum will continue to expand and develop. The first step for the Digital Art Museum is the contemporary art archive. In the future the archive will include digital images of all the works currently in the museum’s collection.
As an extensive digital archive cannot be created overnight, we do ask for your patience should some technical problems or discrepancies in the information occur.
The Digital Art Museum is free, the contained materials are however protected by copyright-laws and therefore can only be used publicly by paying the appropriate fee.
